What this product does with your information

An account of how the Work Passport works today, written so that every line of it can be checked against what the product actually does.

What we hold

• Your phone number or email address, because that is how you sign in and how we send you a code.
• What you type into your Passport: your name, your ZIP code, the kinds of work you want, where you have worked, your skills and certifications, and when you can work.
• The result of each verification check — verified, in progress, or not started. Identity documents are handled by the verification provider and are not stored here.
• The name and, if you give one, the email address of anyone you ask for a reference.

Identity verification

Verifying your identity is optional, and the check runs only after you agree to it on the verification screen — one agreement for scanning your ID document, a separate one for the selfie and the face match. Neither box is ever ticked for you, and we keep a record of the exact wording you agreed to and the moment you agreed, so what you consented to can be checked rather than asserted.

• The capture happens with our verification partner, on their pages. The images of your document and your face stay with them — this product stores only the result of the check.
• Your face data is used to confirm you are a real person and that you match your ID, and for nothing else. Employers never see the images or the data — only whether the check passed.
• Deleting your account deletes your verification results with it.

What an employer sees when you share your Passport

Only what is on the page you can see yourself, minus your exact location. A shared Passport shows your state and never your ZIP code, because a name plus five digits identifies a household.

• Never shared: your date of birth, your address, any government identifier, any photograph of a document, and anything a background check found.
• A check appears as its result only. An employer is told whether it passed, never what was looked at or who ran it.
• Your email address travels with a link only if you attached it to that particular link.
• A confirmed job shows the relationship of the person who confirmed it — a former manager, a colleague — and never their name or contact details.

Links you share

• A shared Passport is reachable by anyone holding the address, so treat it like a document you handed over. Nobody can find it by guessing or by searching: the pages tell search engines not to index them.
• You can turn any link off at any moment, and it stops working immediately for everyone.
• We count how many times a link has been opened and when it was last opened, so you know whether an employer looked. We do not record who a visitor is — the address they came from is scrambled before it is stored, and cannot be turned back.
• A company that opens the full record behind your link is different: we record which company it was, and you can see the list on your own sharing page. That is the trade — the record is no longer readable by anyone holding the address, and in exchange the companies that can read it have names. We never tell you which person at the company opened it.
• Your own visits to your own link are not counted.

Email

We send sign-in codes and, if you ask us to, a reference request to the person you named. We do not send marketing email and there is no list to be added to.

SMS / Text messaging

A sign-in code goes to your phone as a text message or on WhatsApp, whichever you chose, because you asked to sign in. That one is not something you opt into separately — it is the act of signing in.

Everything else is optional. If you opt in, we send text messages about your Passport, job matches, and verification status. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. You can also turn text messages off in Settings, which does the same thing.

Mobile opt-in and consent information is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. We keep a record of when you opted in or out, from which screen, and the exact wording you were shown, so that what you agreed to can be checked rather than asserted. It is used for that and for nothing else.

Deleting everything

You can delete your account from Settings without asking anyone. It removes your Passport, your work history, your skills, your availability, your verification results, your sign-in, and every link you have shared — which stop working at once. Nothing is retained: no background check has been run and no I-9 completed through this product, so there is nothing anyone is required to keep.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
• We do not give an employer anything you have not shared with them by handing over a link.
• There is no third-party tracking or advertising code on these pages.
